Massive Rally Advocates for Monarchy Restoration
In Kathmandu, over 10,000 supporters of former King Gyanendra Shah rallied for the reinstatement of the abolished monarchy and the reestablishment of Hinduism as the state religion. The protest remained nonviolent, reflecting public frustration with the current political system's perceived instability, corruption, and economic challenges.
Current Government Structure
The Fourth Oli Cabinet, led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, has been in power since July 15, 2024. This coalition government includes members from the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), Nepali Congress, People's Socialist Party, and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party. The administration has faced criticism for its inability to address ongoing political instability and economic issues.

Similarly, in the Bagmati Province, Bahadur Singh Lama of the Nepali Congress became Chief Minister on July 24, 2024. His cabinet formation followed a national-level alliance between major parties, aiming to address political stability and governance challenges.
These events highlight Nepal's evolving political landscape, marked by public demonstrations and shifting alliances, reflecting widespread calls for systemic reforms and effective governance.
As of March 9, 2025, former King Gyanendra Shah returned to Kathmandu from Pokhara, greeted by thousands of supporters advocating for the reinstatement of the monarchy and the reestablishment of Hinduism as the state religion. The demonstrators, including members of the pro-monarchist Rastriya Prajatantra Party, expressed dissatisfaction with the current political system, citing issues such as political instability, corruption, and economic challenges.
Despite the growing public support for the monarchy's restoration, analysts suggest that the likelihood of reinstating the monarchy remains uncertain.
